Is Rocklin Doomed or can it be Fixed?...and lesser answers.
12/13/08 by Michael Patrick Murphy a registered "Decline to State" voter.

MIke Asking Santa for a 12.5 million Taxpayer Bailout

With a bailout that large, I could buy an election or two, perhaps even a seat in Congress. It’s only money and what’s that going to be worth in ten years?

Seriously though, the future of Rocklin also rides on the greater storm of international shenanigans. The current city council was caught with its pants down and of course, the newspapers wouldn’t print the pictures of it. Unfortunately, the reason we are stuck with this same city council is that the average folks of Rocklin are politically lazy and dishonest. They simply didn’t help to run any viable candidates who’s platforms actually addressed things like development, the coming inflationary depression, and the associated decreases in revenue and real and imagined property values. I warned these city council folks, but they did almost nothing to prepare for the current crisis where a national war was obviously the straw that broke the financial camel’s back. Five years ago, I led the horses to water, but I couldn’t make them drink. Read further for my long term solutions to improve Rocklin.

Why Did Charlie Brown Lose?
Impact: Placer, Sacramento, Alpine and El Dorado Counties, the State of California and the Nation at large.

Charlie brown lost because he was a registered Democrat and ran as one in California’s most Republican county. Had he run as an independent decline-to-state voter, uninfluenced by Democratic politicians, I believe he would have won the first time as well as the second. (Some believe he should have stayed a Republican and run as one. I disagree.) In Placer County, you’re up against a corrupt cabal of “Republicans in name only.” Letting the Republican Central Committee choose a candidate to represent conservative residents is bad for the County and the cities. The committee is possessed by developers and special interest groups. As I told the Rocklin City Council and Placer County Supervisors in respective Council and Supervisor sessions, I for one, am tired of living in a “developer owned” communist county. Were residents to look at all the socialism in the County, done in part to sell the County to Southern Californians and San Franciscans, they would realize that what I say is true. All one would have to do is to look at the budgets applied to health and human services, public roads and education. A knowledgeable supporter of the incumbents only has to ask, “How communist am I?” My answer to them is “Very.” This is why Rocklin and the country are in the current financial debacle despite the pundit lies that are passed down to us from the major media players. Do you watch CNBC, Fox or ABC? Do you believe what they say about being “Fair and Balanced” or “The most trusted name in news?” If you do, then you have the answer to why America is in such a fix and why Rocklin might be doomed to repeat the mistakes of its own history. Yes, if you believe them, I probably could also sell you land at the bottom of the American River.

Solutions for Rocklin

Honesty and discipline are essential for good governance. Rocklin residents must use discipline to reconnect themselves with the City Council and management and pay closer attention to the elections that propel them into office. They need to learn to follow the money. It all starts with knowing who they are by name and where their money comes from. Change will only occur when we make it happen. We must send better candidates to office—one’s that don’t take the money from business, developers and special interests and that commit to not taking more than a small amount (say $150) from Rocklin residents. That’s the only way that Rocklin can have true representation for the first time in its history.

Rocklinites must pay attention. An hour a week could improve the city 100 percent. Attending City Council and Planning meetings would be a great start. Read the meeting minutes online. Stop voting along party lines. Register as an independent voter and elect officials that are registered independents. Insist that they not use their titles to endorse other candidates. They are supposed to be non-partisan. The current city council is anything but non-partisan. However, the voting folks of Rocklin, not seeing anyone worthy stepping up to the plate, re-elected the same folks that are bringing Rocklin its own financial crisis.
