Doug Ose visits Rocklin at Clover Valley Park

4/6/08 by Michael Patrick Murphy a registered "Decline to State" voter.

The Clover Valley Park location was an ironic choice for Doug Ose considering the divisions the issue caused among residents from all sides of the political spectrum. About 20 residents attended the event, some of which were friends of Doug's, including incumbent Rocklin City Council members, Kathy Lund and Peter Hill. I learned of the gathering on Saturday from one of those despicable robocalls placed to my home phone, but transferred to my cell phone. Apparently, our supposedly non-partisan City Council is again doing its endorsement thing, a good reason to fire them in and of itself. In my mind they have overextended Rocklin by increasing its financial obligations, traffic, smog and quality of life AND consistently aiding candidates with their endorsements (especially developer backed ones).

I myself, stood a little too front and center for some of Ose's supporters, but it's all part of my "in your face" image these days in my vain attempt to wake up Rocklin's sleepy adult population. I bristled when I heard Mr. Ose brag about his abilities to work both sides of the aisle in congress. I asked him, "How many folks are in your district? After thinking about it, he replied, "about 800,000." I told him that's how many sides of the aisle he should be representing.

Unfortunately, with Doug Ose elected, I expect congress would be politics as usual despite the "tax fighting" byline he uses on his campaign signs. It reminds me of my county supervisor Robert Weygandt that did the same false ploy. Like Weygandt, Doug simply wants to spend too much money to call himself a tax fighter. He needs to learn to quit spending before he stops taxing. When asked to show his record on his website, like every other politician in the district, he sidestepped a direct answer with excuses on how easy it is for folks to find his record. That of course, until recently, was not the truth. Thanks to the Washington Post, we can see his record HERE. One thing is for sure and that's that as a three term congressman representing, not us in District 4, but others in District 3, Doug knows how to spend lots and lots and lots of money--money that our government must borrow or print and money that went away from us to the extent that many can't afford to retire in America at all. Perhaps Doug should open the borders rather than close them solving our real estate dilemma once and for all?

Also, some of us would like to know where a politician's money is coming from and I gather that he'll except it from PACs, special interests and basically anyone that isn't caught breaking the law or outrageously unpopular with the voters. I suppose that's something, but looking at his contributions so far, I'll let the reader be the judge. He says he's donated a lot of money to his own campaign, but I'm not seeing it on the website yet. So let's see what's going on at www.opensecrets.org's site. That's a good place to go and do a little research BEFORE YOU VOTE BASED ON DOUG'S GOOD LOOKS.

Doug is a lot of talk about enforcing our borders with a giant wall, I assume to keep us taxpayers in as much as to keep the riffraff out. He's also big on Federal controls over local education as well as Federal monetary incentives. This is all a dangerous trap and smells strongly of a huge expensive "Big Brother" system in the making. At least he appears to have strong feelings about the separation between church and state, where we don't have non-profit churches lobbying the government with church funds.

One supporter seemed bothered by what he called my "negativity" in addressing Doug. I have to say upon reflection that I am more about pessimism. Oh heck, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. After all, the way I see it, "we the people" have lost our bearing and now America is in big, big trouble. It's no time to be wearing "rose colored glasses." I don't think that Doug is a strong enough fighter for our Constitution as you'll see by his record.

In the end, if Doug Ose does get elected, it will have been our own fault for not running a better candidate, one untainted by the Republican OR Democratic Party machines that prostitute themselves for any money from just about anywhere. It seems by his record and funding that Doug Ose will be beholden to the money and until we demand candidates that don't take the money, we will get what developers and special interests pay for. It's sad that the Republican Party has to import its candidates because our district can't come up with anyone better than the late John Doolittle. Mr. Ose is not going to be the way out of our personal irresponsibility in District 4. We need to remember that he was a consistent contributor to John T. Doolittle and he is also listed as a real estate developer, all good reasons to shun this candidate for Congress in 2008. Sorry Doug, but you're going to have to learn to think outside the quid pro quo bipartisan congressional box you've grown so accustomed to. The slogan for the future is "non-partisan" and a country "of responsible people, by responsible people and for responsible people."

What McClintock for Congress Says: Ose voted to spend tax money to study transgender American Indians. Ose voted to give social security to illegal immigrants. Ose voted to spend taxes to study Asian prostitutes in San Francisco. Ose voted to increase wasteful government spending by billions. Ose voted to raise taxes and tax the Internet. If what McClintock's folks say is true, do we want him to replace John T. Doolittle? Keep in touch as we learn more about McClintock to see if he's any better. Ose claims to be a tax fighter. Maybe he fights one, then gives into ten and that's why he has one of the worst tax fighting records of any Republican in Congress and refused to sign the Citizens Against Government Waste "No Earmarks Pledge" per McClintock.

Remember. McClintock is a "pro-lifer," anti-gay marriage and a Republican, too. Government needs to stay out of the marriage and abortion business. Therefore, I don't think McClintock will be that great for our County or Rocklin.

We need someone who is "unstained" by the Democratic and Republican parties. Who will run against these clowns as an independent to represent "we the people" that live here???

Did Sin Win in Rocklin?

Clover Valley Falls, Money Talks and the City spends like there's no tomorrow!

February 6, 2008

Folks at the coffee shop are always asking me to whip out my crystal ball and tell them who's going to win the next election. There are certainly plenty of pundits with crystal balls that ought to get their money back from the ball's manufacturer. Yet they get plenty of column space at the Bee and Herald.

Does my answer impact their votes? Perhaps. Sometimes. I simply try to find the honorable candidates by searching through the haystack. I look for the ethical road on issues. My questioners are more likely to examine their emotional intricacies to decide upon the lesser evil. For most, it doesn't seem to matter that they still get "evil."

My inquisitors still don't bother to follow a candidate or measure's money. Nor do they examine their records, now available for all to see. We might as well have given cats the right to vote.

How I would Improve Rocklin.
